With the playing season in full flow, there has been a huge amount of activity over the past 2 months. Rebel Óg Coaching Monster Blitzes, Mini Leagues, Development Squads and Cúl Camps are in full flow. Already our Cúl Camps look to be hitting record numbers and our football development squads have had record success in Munster Football Tournaments. A reminder to all clubs not to lose focus on the Benchmarking 2020 Vision initiative criteria which will be assessed at year end.

(i) Cul Camps Well, summer is here and Cul Camps are in full swing at the moment, with numbers on the increase for the 5th year running. We have Kelloggs Cul Camps running in the following areas over July and August. (ii) Cork Football Development Squads Success On the 7th July, the Rebel Óg football development squads competed in Munster Competitions at u14, u15 and u16 lage grades. The Cork Football teams captured the u15 and u16 tournaments while the u14s competition is entering its second phase on the 28th July with 2 out of the 4 Cork sides in contention for victory. The U16 “White” squad won their tournament in Limerick beating Limerick, Kerry and Tipperary. The “Red” squad also produced excellent football on the day but came up short against Tipperary in their first game before beating Clare and Waterford to reach the Plate final.This was the first time that Cork have won this tournament in 6 years The U15 West squad won the Humphrey Kelleher Tournament beating Limerick and South Kerry before brushing aside the challenge of North Kerry in the final. The Cork East squad beat Clare before losing to North Kerry by 1 point after extra time in a thrilling semi final. The two Cork panels will be in action again on the 28th July as a qualifier blitz for the Adam Mangan Tournament in Offaly. The U14 Jim Power tournament in Waterford is now a 2 day event. Cork North and Cork City East are going forward to the Cup Competition having qualified from their groups while the West and Mid West will compete in the Plate competition having lost out on goal difference to qualify. (iii) The Bank of Ireland Celtic Challenge 2018 The Bank of Ireland Celtic Challenge was established in 2016 and is the only competition in hurling that has teams from all 32 counties participating. For 2018, a total of 41 teams with over 1,200 players will play in 135 games including 5 Finals as part of the Bank of Ireland Celtic Challenge. Well done to two of our Cork teams who made it to the Finals. (iv) Fé14 Óg Peil 2018 in CIT On Tuesday 12th June the Munster Fe 14 Óg Peil took place in CIT. With teams from Cork, Clare, Limerick, Tipperary & Waterford taking part it was a full day of Gaelic Football through skills and games. (v) Go Games U9, U10 & U11 Leagues. For 2018, Rebel óg Coaching are to continue with developing the Go Games Structure to provide a suitable Games Program for all boys from U7 to U11. The first half of the years programs have gone well at U9, U10 & U11 with many clubs delighted with the format and are looking forward to the second half of the program where they are now placed in groups with teams of equal strength based on results from the first half of the program. (vi) Rebel Og U13 Open Summer Coaching Sessions We have several weeks of open training sessions over the month of July and Aug. Its important to note that clubs have been contacted already and any player born in 2005 is welcome to attend, these are not trials, these are fun, games and skills sessions which in turn will lead to a better understanding of the game and what is required by each player to progress and improve their own skill set. We will be working on both codes hurling and football at the sessions. Please ensure every child on the age is notified and encouraged to attend the sessions from your club. Its simple, if you want to take part just turn up with your Hurley, Helmet, Gum shield, Bottle of water and a desire to learn new things. (vii) 2018 Cork Poc Fada The 2018 Cork Poc Fada run by Cork GAA and Rebel Og Coaching and Games took place at Garryvoe Beach on Thur June 7th. With weather conditions very good, a nice sunny evening with very little breeze along the course on Garryvoe Beach, Paudie O Brien the coordinator on the day explained the rules to everyone and once everyone had signed in at 6.30pm the competition began. The senior players started out first and were followed by the U16 players. We had players from Kiltha Og, Fr O’Neills, Killavullen, KIlshannig, Youghal, Banteer and Midleton.
