Muskerry & Carrigdhoun U8 & U10 Workshops
On Saturday 2nd, in Coachford, and Saturday 9th in Ballygarvan I will be running Coaching Workshops for U8 and U10 coaches. Both workshops will run from 10am to 12.30pm. These workshops will cover the essentials when coaching the U8 & U10 age groups. The workshops will cover both hurling and football at the same time. Some of the topics that will be covered are as follows:
· Organising a session.... Progression, Variation, Timekeeping, Equipment, Safety, Ratio of coaches to players
· Fundamentals, ABC's, RJT
· Catching... hurling and football
· Spatial awareness / Positional sense
· Tackling
· The Grip.... hurling only
· Left and Right
All of the above will incorporate Communication, How to Coach Skills, Fun, Praise, Head-Hands-Feet-(Hurley), Feedback, Language, Demonstration, Observation, Questioning and much more.
These workshops are free to all who want to attend. We are asking Muskerry and Carrigdhoun Clubs to send five people in total. Their coaching officer, two U8 and two U10 coaches each.
U8 & U10 Monster Blitzes
In 2012 we ran a series of Monster Blitzes for U8 and U10 players in both hurling and football. At some venue last year we had over 50 teams take part in games in a single day. There was a great atmosphere at the venues and the blitzes were enjoyed by all. Very positive feedback was received from all of the venues. We will be running a similar programme this year with the first blitzes taking place at the end of April. Dates, venues and details will be sent to clubs shortly and will also be discussed at the U8 and U10 workshops.
Coach Education Corner
We have been very active on the Coach Education front so far in 2013. To date we have run 8 Foundation Courses for clubs across the county with many more planned for the coming weeks. We have also completed two Award 1 Youth and Adult Courses in Ardfield and Meelin with further courses taking place at present in Youghal and Kinsale. I would really like to thank all of those involved in securing venues and helping in the organisation of these Award 1 Courses. At present I am planning an Award 1 Course in a venue close to the city. Details will be advertised shortly. Easter Camps for Clubs
Easter Camps are a great opportunity for clubs to provide coaching and games for their young players during the Easter holidays. Easter Camps run in the same way as Cul Camps targeting the same age groups. If any club would like to find out more about Easter Camps please contact me.

Primary School Blitzes
I will shortly be releasing dates for Primary School Hurling Blitzes in Carrigdhoun and Muskerry. These blitzes are for 2nd and 3rd Class pupils. Blitzes such as these are a great opportunity for schools to offer their young stars a chance to play in the school colours, have fun and improve their hurling skills with their friends. We would appeal to clubs, as they have done in the past, to help out their schools in any way that they can so that they can attend these blitzes. More details on blitzes to be sent to schools and clubs over the coming weeks.
