Football Feast at Monster Blitzes!
The Go Games Football season for clubs commenced last Saturday with a bumper weekend of activity for boys around the county at Fé 10 level.
Coiste Oiliúna ran its opening Monster Blitzes last Saturday with over 1300 (124 teams) boys participating in a football feast across 6 different Blitz centres.
The activity began at 10am in Skibbereen, Clonakilty, Kilmichael, Whitechurch, Carrigtwohill and Fermoy with each venue blowing the last whistle at 12.30pm. The format was a group of 4 teams with each club getting 3 games.
Under the guidance of the county GDA's, coaches have been attending workshops to help improve their coaching standards in advance of the Blitzes. Last Saturday was the first day that coaches were able to assess how their players are improving and also to try out players in different positions.
The Blitzes are primarily fun and participation based with no scores being recorded and every player getting the opportunity to play which is in keeping with International best practice at this age group.
With the games being 9 a side, every player got meaningful touches of the ball which added to their enjoyment of the day.
Even the weather played its part in making this a great occasion for all parents, players and coaches attending.
Coiste Oiliúna would especially like to thank the host clubs for making their facilities available for the day. Their support is much appreciated.
Next up will be the turn of the Fé 8's and all clubs around the county will be invited to take part in these Blitzes in the coming days.
The date scheduled is the 11th May and again, there will be 7 host venues selected around the county to host the huge volume of games that will occur.
