Schull Super-Touch Blitz

The model used is being piloted across the county at present with schools being encouraged to host Internal Super Touch Blitzes.
In other words, schools are being asked to run leagues or blitzes for first and second year pupils within the school. These are simple to setup and can be anything from 5 to 13 a side. These games maybe the future of Post Primary GAA given the budget and time constraints currently griping the school system.
At this Blitz, Transition Year students were called upon to referee the games with 6 teams at 7 a side playing 3 games each before the top two teams competed in a final.
This was followed up on Friday with a Blitz in Hamilton High School which was a day long affair with the whole school descending on the pitches at lunch time to catch some of the action which also generated a great atmosphere for those lucky enough to be playing.
As an incentive to schools, the winners receive a specially commissioned Super Touch t shirt from Coiste Oiliúna and Munster Council.
Across the county, Coiste Oiliúna have been rolling out these Internal Blitzes in 2013. They are proving to be very successful and any schools that have the facilities nearby to run them, have been very happy with how they have gone.
Without the help of the teachers in the schools this activity would not take place. Despite many other priorities in our education system at present, the work that teachers undertake to promote gaelic games is to be admired.
