Super Saturday!
Tomorrow, May 25th, promises to be one of the busiest weekends on the GAA Games Development calendar in Cork .

The action kicks off at 10am around the county with Under 8 Monster Blitzes taking place in Dunmanway, Ballinhassig, Cloughduv, St Vincents, Killeagh, Mallow and Milstreet. This will involve over 120 teams and 1200 boys, (yes,1200!), taking part.
This follows on from the very successful blitzes already run at U8 and U10 level so far in 2013 by Coiste Oiliúna.

The weather has been very favourable so far on blitz days and we look forward to huge crowds of players and spectators at each venue to see the stars of the future show off the skills that they have been practicing in pre-season training. All clubs throughout the county are invited to register teams for the blitzes and clubs can attend any venue they wish provided they register well in advance through their local GDA.

The early afternoon activity will focus on Féile Hurling Skills with the winners from the various Regional Competitions coming to the North Mon GAA Grounds for the County Hurling Skills Finals. The winners of this competition will go on to represent Cork at the upcoming Féile Competition in Limerick.
Indeed, Friday May 24th will kick off our skills competitions with the Poc Fada being run at Pilmore Strand, Youghal for both senior and U16 players, the winners of which will progress to the Munster Competition in July.

Back to Saturday, and attention will then switch to football, when the Regional U14 football squads will come together for a blitz. This will be the second blitz for these boys and it will lead to the selection of boys for the Cork U14 Schools Of Excellence squads in 2013. These squads have been restructured in 2013 with the new pairings consisting of Avondhu/Duhallow, Carbery/Beara, Imokilly, Seandun, Carrigdhoun/Muskerry. The previous blitz was very competitive with next Saturday promising to deliver similar very competitive fare in the North Mon Grounds.

While the U14 blitzes will be in focus on the day, one mustn't forget that all the other county squads will be active on the day around the county in both codes. The U17 hurlers and footballers are combining to train in Clonakilty in what should be a very novel day that includes training at Inchydoney beach.

If one still has the energy left at the end of all this activity, then where better to go than to the Gaelic Grounds for Cork Senior Footballers' Championship opener against Limerick at 7pm.

It promises to be a truly hectic schedule but one that will no doubt be enjoyed by all involved!
