Carrigdhoun and Muskerry U13 Divisional Sessions Summer 2013
To date we have completed three U13 football and three U13 hurling coaching sessions in Carrigdhoun and Muskerry. I have seen an excellent turnout at all sessions to date with 190 players being coached over the three weeks.
The focus in football has been on developing the players week hand and weak foot. Large parts of the sessions were dedicated to improving the players weak foot. Players were a times in games only permitted to kick with their weak foot with the aim to improve kicking with that leg.
In hurling we are also focusing on developing both sides. Players would play games and do shooting and striking drills where we would focus again on improving their weak side. Another aspect of the game in hurling that we have focused on is catching the ball from the air. The players get rewarded for catching the ball from the air in games and players are encouraged to use their hand to catch the ball more often in games and drills etc.
We see these aspects of football and hurling as being very important for players to improve and become better players. The players have been encouraged to practice these skills at home.
Over the next three weeks we are continuing with our U13 Programme. We will be running three blitzes in football and hurling. Please see below for the times, dates and venues. As I mentioned before these sessions are the first step on the road to the Cork U14 Development Squads for 2014. Players will be picked for Regional Panels mainly from these divisional sessions. I am asking clubs to send players that they feel are of divisional standard to these sessions.
