A summary of the main activities being worked on this week are as follows :

The main focus this week is on Post Primary Schools.

James MacCarthy will be setting up a new pilot scheme involving Cork Coaching and Games, Carbery Junior Board and the surrounding clubs to support Schull C.S., Bantry C.S. and St Fachtna's Skibbereen. This scheme will see first year boys coached in the key skills of gaelic football over the next 2-3 months.
It will be dove tailing nicely with a Carbery u13 Academy Programme which has been running every week through the Summer period and is now back under lights in Clonakilty and Skibbereen each week coordinated by Kevin O Donovan and James MacCarthy.

The West Region will see the final Monster Blitz of the season in Clonakilty this Saturday with the u 10 footballers displaying their skills after a long season of training and blitzes.
The buzz on the day will be huge and if the weather obliges, the car parks of this splendid venue will be bursting at the seams.

All the action will be monitored by the Southern Star newspaper which will have a photographer on site capturing the all important moments from the Blitz.
Indeed the Southern Star newspaper will feature a Coaching and Games section each week over the next few months so everyone down in the West Region will be able to get the latest coaching news on a weekly basis.

This week will see Paudie O Brien working with North Mon AG and Christians in hurling while Martin Coleman will be helping out in Carrigaline, Crossahven and Coachford Post Primary Schools.
Sean Crowley will be in St Colemans Midleton while Noel Crowley continues to help out with Hamilton High School.
All the above are hurling based sessions.
Meanwhile James MacCarthy will be in MICC Dunmanway on Monday for a first year football session and will be doing a Transition Year Foundation Course in Castletownbere on Thursday which will lead to the 4th year pupils running 1st year leagues in the near future.

This Wednesday evening sees the start of the Coach Education Season with an Award One Course commencing in Cobh. It will also run on Saturday of this week.

Noel Crowleys Primary School Blitzes were cancelled last week due to inclement weather but he will be on the road again this week with blitzes in Bandon (Monday), Brinny (Thursday) and Castlelyons (Friday).
The other 2 days will be spent visiting schools to setup the next set of blitzes.

Paudie O Brien has a blitz in St Finbarrs on Wednesday and then a Blitz Saturday for u 9 club players in hurling.

The under 13 Regional Hurling Blitzes VS Dublin Regions worked very well in Newtown and Ballynoe on Sunday last.
The standard of the Cork players was encouraging and there were some players not selected who would add greatly to the teams put out on the day. The boys improved immensely over the 2 games played and will learn a lot from the day.
Attention turns to football now with the Regional teams at u13, u14 and u15 being prepared for the October mid term break where one off games will be played between the Regions using the Squads Week as an opportunity for players who may not be on County Squads to show what they have to offer.

Finally, with County Finals coming up this weekend, Castlelyons and Youghal will be bringing 22 u12 players each to play at half time in their Premier Intermediate Final Saturday while on Sunday Macroom, Clyda Rovers, Nemo Rangers and Castlehaven will all be in action at u 12 level.
If attending the games, please watch out for the modified rules which will be used during the games. The idea is to showcase to watching coaches the rule changes that can be made to make players focus on particular skills.
