Muskerry U13 Hurling & Football Easter Sessions
Muskerry U13 Regional Sessions started during Easter with two hurling and two football sessions taking place in Coachford and Cloughduv. We had an excellent turnout for the four sessions with over 50 players attending each session.
The focus for the sessions were to get players to use both sides (hurling) and both feet and hands (football). Players were also encouraged to move when they received the ball and to strike and kick the ball on the run. Players have been asked to work on improving these skills so as to make them better players. These skills will be focused on again in future regional sessions and the coaches will be able to tell who has been working on them. The U13 Regional sessions will resume in July when sessions will again take place during the day.
Times, dates and venues for these sessions will be sent to clubs in June. I would like to thank Jon Darby, Don Hennessy and John Holly for their expertise and help coaching during the Easter Sessions. I would also like to thank Aghabullogue and Cloughduv GAA clubs for the use of their fine facilities.
Regional Tournaments Easter Games
The last round of the Regional Tournaments took place during Easter with the hurling taking place on Monday 21st and football on Thursday 24th April.
The tournament was a huge success overall with very competitive games taking place between all of the regions.
The Cork Development Squads for U14, U15, U16 have now been announced (12th May) in both hurling and football. The Cork squads are picked on players performances in the Regional Tournaments.
This is the last tournament for these squads in this series of Regional Tournament games. However, the Regional Squads for 2015âs - U14âs, U15âs and U16âs will begin again in the autumn. Details of these sessions will be furnished to clubs and squad players towards the end of the summer. Every player will again be give a chance to attend games sessions in the autumn.
Monster Blitzes
Currently Cork Coaching and Games U8 and U10 Monster Hurling and Football Blitzes are in full swing around the county. Every Saturday there are 8 blitz venues in operation with between 100 and 250 players playing at each venue. Club U8 and U10 coaches receive a regular text on the week of their blitz and reply with the number of teams they would like to enter and which venue they would like to attend. If your club have not taken part in a blitz in Muskerry ye this year or if you would like more information please text me 0867725372 or Paudie O Brien 0867725411 to register your interest. Please see our @CorkGAACoaching twitter page for regular photos and updated regarding the blitzes.
Post Primary School Blitzes
Post Primary School Blitzes are currently taking place around the county. These 7 a side blitzes are aimed at second year students. Each school plays a series of internal blitzes after school or at lunchtime. The overall winners of the blitz get a Munster GAA t-shirt each. These blitzes have proved very popular with the schools in Muskerry with all Muskerry schools taking part. It is a great finish to the GAA year for the schools and players.
Lee Flag Winners
Huge congratulations to Ballincollig on winning the Gold Award and a cheque for â¬1300, in the Lee Flag Programme run by Cork Coaching and Games. This is the top award for underage clubs in Cork regarding coaching and games. This is reward for the excellent work being done in the club. Congratulations to all who contributed to achieving this award.
Primary School Blitzes
I plan to run a series of Primary School Blitzes on Fridays in Muskerry until the middle of June. These blitzes will be aimed at 2nd and 3rd Class pupils and will be 7 a side. The blitzes will follow the same format as the U8 Monster Blitzes and are aimed at involving all 2nd and 3rd class pupils in every school. The main theme of the blitzes is fun and involvement for all. I will be in contact with school and I will release a schedule to them next week. I would encourage clubs to ask their schools to take part in these blitzes.
